Prunus serotina

Black cherry, also called rum cherry, does not tolerate high water tables or poorly drained sites.  It will tolerate shade during establishment, but prefers full sun for best growth.  It will re-sprout readily from the root collar or stump following injury.  The wood is highly valued for veneer and furniture.  NOTE: Leaves and twigs contain hydrocyanic acid which is poisonous.  Do not allow livestock or pets to consume.  Fruit is edible, but bitter.

Sold as 1 yr. old bare root seedlings, 18-24”.
