Black Cherry
Prunus serotina
Also called wild black cherry or rum cherry, it does not tolerate high water tables or poorly drained sites. It will tolerate shade during establishment, but prefers full sun for best growth. It will re-sprout readily from the root collar or stump following injury. The wood is highly valued for veneer and furniture.
